Visiting Boston

planetubuntu, random — Tags: , , — boredandblogging @ 8:23 am

I’ll be in the Boston area for a few days this week for a wedding and trying to find some fun things to do.

So far these are items on the agenda:

  1. Walk the Freedom Trail - the 2.5 mile self-guided tour of American Revolutionary sites. http://www.thefreedomtrail.org
  2. Duck Tours - basically a tour of the city. http://www.bostonducktours.com/
  3. Pier 4 - everyone keeps talking about this seafood restaurant on the Boston Harbor. http://www.pier4.com/
  4. Fenway Park - even though the Red Sox are not playing, a tour of the ballpark should be fun. http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/bos/ballpark/tour.jsp
  5. The Salem Witch Museum - http://www.salemwitchmuseum.com

Since I got some good suggestions for my trip to Toronto earlier this year, I thought I would ask for recommendations again. What are some good places to eat, fun things to do and see in Boston?

Team Contacts Need to Join loco-contacts Mailing List

linux, planetubuntu, ubuntu — Tags: , , , — boredandblogging @ 7:52 pm

All LoCo team contacts should be subscribed to the loco-contacts mailing list. If the team contact for your LoCo changes, the new person should join the list.

Recently, it has been used to keep the LoCo leaders informed about the hosting changes and the new options available for webhosting. Since all the appropriate contacts are not on the list, the information is not properly filtering through the community.

Also, check the archives to see if you have missed anything: https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/loco-contacts/.

Holy Trinity: Coffee, Cigars, and Moleskine

Coffee, Cigar, and Moleskine

A perfect day: A strong cup (or two) of coffee, a strong cigar, and dumping all the crud in my head onto my Moleskine pocket notebook.

August Ubuntu Georgia US Team Meeting

linux, planetubuntu, ubuntu — Tags: , , , — boredandblogging @ 11:44 pm

Saturday afternoon, the Ubuntu Georgia US Team held its third face to face meeting at a local pizza joint. Some of the usual characters showed up like Tim Jagenberg, Joshua Chase (our new marketing manager), and Bill Weber (the infamous compiledkernel). We were also introduced to Jon Reagan, our newest LoCo coordinator, who has done a great job running our weekly meetings, and setting up the August meet.

A welcome addition to the team, Rick Clark, the new lead of the Server Team, brought us Feisty CDs and stickers from the recent Gutsy sprint.

The meeting announcement was cross-posted to the ALE (Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts) mailing list and several of its members joined us. Rick will be doing an Ubuntu presentation at an ALE meeting in the near future. We hope this is the beginning of a great relationship between the Ubuntu LoCo and LUGs around the state of Georgia.

Among the many topics discussed, planning has begun for a Gutsy release party and install fest.

08/11/07 Ubuntu LoCo Meeting

This will unfortunately be the last time many of us see Tim, as he will be returning to Germany to continue his schooling. Good luck Tim!

I Love My Wee…

WeeChat that is…being a terminal junkie, screen + irssi + weechat = perfection. I’ve set up irssi as a proxy so I can use the same connection from multiple machines around the house.

The best thing about WeeChat is that you can split horizontally and vertically, which I don’t think you can do with irssi (could be wrong about that). Granted, most GUI irc clients like X-Chat can be arranged to do so, but thats no fun.

Nothing like seeing six channels at the same time on 1280×1024 resolution.

Meerkat Manor…The Family is Back

If you’ve never seen the show and this doesn’t make you a bit curious, you have no heart.

Meerkat Manor, Sopranos-like Ad Campaign by Animal Planet

Meerkat Manor

Narrated by Sean Astin (Sam from Lord of the Rings) in the US and Bill Nighy in the UK, the show is about a family of Meerkats in the Kalahari Desert. Its fascinating and addictive. Watch it. Now.
