Acer X243Wbd and Office Space

Depending on where we are in the release cycle at work, I can work from home now and then. I had a 20″ and 17″ Samsung hooked up. The 17″ had the typical 1280×1024 resolution. Most of the time it got used for gwibber and irc. The 20″ wasn’t bad at all. But looking at code all day, trying to split screen and look at two files side by side at the same time was difficult. The 1680×1050 was irritating.

Strolling through Office Depot last week, I saw the Acer X243Wbd. 24″. 1920×1200. DVI. Colors looked sharp at the store. Nothing amazing about it, but nothing bad either. Got some decent reviews online. Decided to sleep on it. Went back the next day and picked one up.

I’m in heaven.

Oh yeah, walking to the cashier, I saw the famous Slimline stapler that was in Office Space. Had to get one to pay homage to the great movie.

  1. What do you use to power the two screens? Two cards or just one?

  2. Love the choice of keyboard ;) I bought an Apple keyboard a few weeks ago, it’s brilliant to work with. I’ve currently got a 22″ Samsung T220HD, 1680×1050, haven’t had any problems with it. I’ve also got my old 17″ LCD hooked up to my right. Very helpful when trying to look at something while coding.

  3. @Nick,

    I’ve got a single 8600GT which has a DVI and VGA output.

    @Alex,

    My first experience with the Apple keyboard was on my work machine. If you are light typer, its awesome!

  5. I have an acer TFT monitor at work and I hate it!

    Looks like ass compared to my ThinkPad or my Samsung TFT at home.

  6. your desktop setup certainly is enviable, but I prefer my IBM model M to any other keyboard I have purchased. By the way the specifics on the stapler are Swingline model 747 (red) which apparently didn’t exist before the movie (props department painted one red), but the high demand had them start producing that stapler in that colour.
