Ubuntu Georgia 7.10 Install Fest Recap
This past Saturday, the Georgia US LoCo, in conjunction with Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts (ALE), held its first ever install fest. Joshua Chase did a great job working with ALE to set up this venture.
In the weeks leading up to the event, we passed out flyers based on this:
John Von Hollen got the morning started by getting us some much needed coffee and doughnuts. Then Jon Reagan kicked of the presentations with an introduction to Ubuntu and Open Source.
David Tomaschik covered how to secure Ubuntu and have remote access. Charles Keller covered the evolving world of game support in Ubuntu.
Then Jim Popovitch, who works at IBM, showed how Ubuntu was being used inside of Big Blue. Interestingly, IBM has 600 developers working on 100 different open source projects.
More pictures from the event can be seen on flickr. Presentations have also been posted to the wiki.
Overall, about 35 folks showed up to the install fest and everyone had a great time. Now to start preparing for the 8.04 install fest!
I happened to be in Atlanta last Saturday but I arrived a little after 3pm. I would have loved to of made it. I looks like everyone sure had fun.
