Obviously with Dell and Wal-Mart selling Ubuntu (or Ubuntu derivitives), the Ubuntu brand is becoming more and more visible.
Today I noticed that the Popular Mechanics website published an article from their December issue about a sweepstakes to give away a custom PC, loaded with Ubuntu. It looks like the PC is installed with the stock ISO with their own background. Popular Mechanics links to a download of the desktop ISO and JPGs.
What other non-computer specific magazines have had Ubuntu related promotions?
This past Saturday, the Georgia US LoCo, in conjunction with Atlanta Linux Enthusiasts (ALE), held its first ever install fest. Joshua Chase did a great job working with ALE to set up this venture.
In the weeks leading up to the event, we passed out flyers based on this:

John Von Hollen got the morning started by getting us some much needed coffee and doughnuts. Then Jon Reagan kicked of the presentations with an introduction to Ubuntu and Open Source.

David Tomaschik covered how to secure Ubuntu and have remote access. Charles Keller covered the evolving world of game support in Ubuntu.

Then Jim Popovitch, who works at IBM, showed how Ubuntu was being used inside of Big Blue. Interestingly, IBM has 600 developers working on 100 different open source projects.

More pictures from the event can be seen on flickr. Presentations have also been posted to the wiki.
Overall, about 35 folks showed up to the install fest and everyone had a great time. Now to start preparing for the 8.04 install fest!
Its been a minor pet peeve of mine that there wasn’t a more direct way of getting to the Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter on the wiki.
A couple of weeks ago, I started doing whois lookups on various combinations of Ubuntu + news and noticed that Canonical already owned ubuntunews.org.
Following up that discovery with some conversations with Corey Burger and Gerry Carr, ubuntunews.org now redirects to the UWN summaries posted on the Fridge. Not exactly direct, but at least friendlier (IMO) than a https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuWeeklyNewsletter.

The Georgia US LoCo will be holding an install fest this Saturday, November, 10th at Emory Law School, from 9am to 5pm.
We’ll have some live demos and presentations. They will introduce Ubuntu, provide help on customizations, security, and remote access, and show how Ubuntu is being used in corporate environments like IBM.
As a bribe, we have some free t-shirts to raffle away as well.
